How did you come up with the idea of Just One IOTA?
In late 2019 I was taking a business and entrepreneurship class in Manhattan. I had a few different ideas for a class assignment, but was drawn to the idea of creating something that blended my appreciation for fashion and style with my tendency to encourage. Through a series of strange events, I came up with the idea of clothing items that are made exclusively for the wearer. While most apparel items can be read from someone else’s point of view, all JOI apparel is made to encourage the wearer. So even when graphics and designs don’t make sense to anyone else, the wearer can be encouraged by the truth of what they see.
Why did you choose the name Just One IOTA?
The idea for a children’s apparel line that was designed exclusively for the wearer came to mind in late 2019, but the name took more time. It wasn’t until last year summer that the name came to me as I listened to an interview. The person being interviewed talked about the different things that influenced her as a child. When she used the phrase “one iota” something seemed to click. My desire is to influence young people–even if it’s by the slightest amount– to remember the truth of who they are internally and to bring that truth out, providing an external reminder of the truth that will never change. From there, Inside Out Tees + Apparel seemed to naturally fit.
Do you only make a certain number of shirts?
I really don’t like to be wasteful so I’m currently creating a certain number of shirts in small batches to gauge interest and cost effectiveness. I would love to be able to cover entire schools of children in positive messages, but that would take more manpower, time, and a plan to ensure items wouldn’t end up in landfills. While I work on a plant to create that trifecta, I’ll stick to smaller numbers and keep things manageable.
Who makes the clothing? Where are they made?
I’m pretty picky about where and how things are made. And I’ve been labeled as a germaphobe for good reason. I can’t help but like things to be clean. That’s why all items are pressed and packaged in a pet-free, pest-free, smoke-free location because I desire even the most sensitive littles to be able to wear JOI items.
Can I submit a word for consideration?
Absolutely! I’d love to put more positive messages on children’s apparel. So if there’s an encouraging word you think would help inspire young people, please submit it via the contact form and I’ll consider it.
